Horses - Care & Behaviour
We can visit you and your horse to help with such problems as loading, napping, biting, leading, and so on.
Horses often develop a sudden fear of places and situations, which appears to have no logical basis.
At Pets Behaving Badly, we use a combination of Natural Training Therapies, all positive and enjoyable.
However, we are not a soft option, rather we teach owners to work hard to communicate with their horses and build up mutual trust.
Did you not get a horse in the first place for your pleasure and recreation?
If so, enjoy solving your horse's problems, by learning positive methods.
When caring horse owners contact us, their own methods have failed, often after much advice from students of the Yard Broom School of Training.
They have discovered that when many stones of horse opposes the will of ten stone or so of human, even the yard broom will not help!
We use Reiki healing where this is indicated to help with traumas and fear.
We use therapeutic massage where this is indicated.
We aim to create a natural hierarchy, where the horse sees you as the natural leader, the one person whom he or she can trust.
Speaking as a trainer who stands five feet two in stockinged feet, I prefer to rely on my brain and my knowledge, rather than brute force.
I see many horses who will not load, or stand still to be mounted, or freak at the mere sight of bikes, pigs, and so on.
Owners in general have tried the sensible, no nonsense approach, and discovered that real fear and trauma, even when ungrounded, cannot be overcome in this way.
If you are terrified of snakes, would you learn to like them more if someone forced you to cuddle a python under threat of a beating?
How does that shape up with beating a horse into a trailer, or putting on a 'stronger rider' to get past a field of pigs?
You need to build trust in your horse, so that when you say something is okay, he or she believes you because you have earned respect, not because you have a bigger yard broom.
Human ego is the biggest barrier to the training and handling of any domestic animal.
We teach you to leave your ego at home, and work out what is going on in the horse's mind.
Work with your horse without the presence of negative thinkers and ego freaks, and simply communicate!
