Dog Trainer Instructor Course Level 2 2007
The Course covers the units set out below, and candidates are assessed and then certificated on successful completion of the course, Students may be invited to join our College Registry, and use the letters CoPAS after their name. This course is totally in line with The Kennel Club’s Accreditation Scheme, which all trainers should be thinking of joining. Accreditation with The Kennel Club is the one way in which the public can be assured of receiving proper training, and of knowing at which level their trainer is working.
The Units
Unit One
Equal Opportunities in Dog Training. Health and safety issues in Dog Training. An introduction to how dogs learn. An introduction to how people learn. Basic exercises and skills
Unit Two
Motivation in the dog - why would he want to be trained at all? Motivation in the owner/handler- why do they train, what are their aims and objectives? Communication between owner and dog- dog and owner- owner and instructor. Reward based training as it applies to the pet owner, encompassing basic exercises and scentwork.
Unit Three
Dog Behaviour- an insight into canine psychology as it affects the relationship between the dog and his/her owners.
Unit Four
Taking a class- the practicalities of teaching group sessions, with particular reference to earlier sessions.
Unit Five
Coaching individuals. Concentrating particularly on those with special difficulties such as difficult dogs, dog-aggressive (anti-social) dogs, physical disabilities etc
Unit 6
Assessments through practical instructing and training of various dogs, individual handlers and groups. These can be carried out at your location or here.
